I finally got round to reading this beautiful novel, after my sister recommended it to me quite a while ago. The story follows the lives of Mukesh, an 80 year old man, and Aleisha, a 17 year old girl, and their unlikely friendship. Their bond is developed through their shared reading list; the relationship is charming and sweet. Aleisha reads one step ahead of Mr P, so that she can recommend books to him.

I feel that this book encapsulates the transformative power of fiction. The characters and stories are simply beautiful, and the blends of cultures explored works perfectly.

I feel that I’m going to think about Aleisha and Mukesh for a long time- something that is a sign of an exceptional read. The book may be set in London but it takes the reader far further than there.

Also- I need to read/reread the books off the list! Possibly a job for 2023!

A well deserved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
