A compelling mystery with great characters

Spoiler free Lisa Jewell's The Truth About Melody Browne offers a captivating blend of mystery and character-driven drama. The novel effectively develops multiple timelines and perspectives to unravel a complex web of secrets and deceit. It kept me engaged solidly, and I couldn't put the book down.
Strengths: The central mystery is well-constructed and maintains a steady level of suspense. Jewell expertly introduces red herrings and unexpected twists. The characters are nuanced and relatable, each grappling with personal struggles and past traumas. I really liked the protagonist, Melody.
Areas for improvement: While the overall narrative flow is engaging, there are instances where the pacing feels somewhat uneven. The conclusion, while satisfying in terms of resolving the central mystery, could have been more emotionally resonant — I was hungry for that little bit more!
There are definite similarities between this and The Family Upstairs; the latter is like the darker sister for Melody Browne, which I was here for!
