The Messy Reader verdict

A pleasant, festive read that shines in its structure more than its storytelling

I really loved the advent-style format of this book: reading one chapter a day in the lead-up to Christmas was such a cosy, festive experience and definitely the highlight for me. It made the story feel like a little daily treat and worked perfectly for the season.

That said, while the concept was charming, the overall story itself felt quite basic and predictable. The characters and plot followed a familiar path, and I never felt particularly surprised or emotionally challenged by where things went. It was sweet and easy to read, but lacked a bit of depth to really stand out.

A pleasant, festive read that shines in its structure more than its storytelling. It's ideal if you're after something light and Christmassy, but not one that left a lasting impression for me.

For me, a festively fine 3 stars.
