Your information

Privacy policy

Plain-English details about the information Messy Reader uses and the choices you have.

Who runs this site

Messy Reader is an independent UK book-review website run by Alison. Privacy questions can be sent through the contact page.

Information you provide

If you create an account, comment, join a book-club discussion, place an order or contact us, we process the details needed to provide that service. This can include your display name, email address, profile image, message content and order details. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes and cannot be read by the site owner.

Technical information

The hosting service may record IP addresses, browser details and request logs for security and reliability. Essential browser storage is used for login sessions, shopping baskets, theme preferences and web-app behaviour.

Optional analytics

Google Analytics is loaded only after you choose “Accept analytics”. It helps show which pages are useful and how the site is used. You can decline it and continue to use the site normally.

Why information is used

Information is used to operate accounts and community features, fulfil orders, answer messages, prevent abuse, secure the service and—where you consent—measure site usage. It is not sold.

Retention and your rights

Information is kept only while it is needed for the relevant service, security or legal obligations. UK users can ask to access, correct or delete their personal information, or object to certain processing, by contacting Messy Reader. Some records may need to be retained where the law requires it.

External links

Book-buying and social links lead to other websites with their own privacy practices. Some shopping links may be affiliate links.

Updates

This policy was last updated on 23 July 2026 and may be revised when the site or its services change.
