Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros is another captivating read that delivers on strong characters within the Empyrean world. Yarros masterfully crafts a world that feels both familiar and utterly unique, immersing readers in the complexities of the Empyrean Guard.

What I loved:

The characters are undoubtedly the highlight. They are flawed, complex, and incredibly well-developed. You'll find yourself rooting for their triumphs and agonizing over their struggles. The chemistry between Violet and Xaden is still electric (spicy read, anyone?), crackling with tension.

The Empyrean universe provides a fascinating backdrop. Yarros brings the world to life with vivid descriptions and a gritty realism that makes it feel authentic. The setting itself adds another layer of intrigue to the story, influencing the characters and their relationships in unexpected ways.

What I was less obsessed with:

As with the other books in this series, Onyx Storm ends on a frustrating cliffhanger. While it leaves you eager for the next installment, it can be a bit jarring and leave a sense of unfinished business. I would've loved a little closure in some of the plot points!

The story could have benefited from some judicious editing. At times, it felt a bit drawn out, and it could easily have been 50-100 pages shorter without sacrificing the core plot or character development.

Overall:

Despite the minor drawbacks, Onyx Storm is a solid addition to the Empyrean series. Yarros's talent for creating compelling characters and immersive worlds shines through, making it a captivating read for fans of military romance.
