Good Spirits

I won't lie, this one started off a little slow for me, and I wasn't entirely convinced in the early chapters. But somewhere along the way, it quietly worked its magic... because by the end, I was crying. Actual tears. So clearly, it got under my skin whether I was ready for it or not. This is a modern, very loose take on A Christmas Carol, and I really enjoyed spotting the familiar emotional beats reimagined in such a contemporary, character-driven way. Borison does cosy, heartfelt romance so well and once the story found its rhythm, it delivered on the feelings in a big way. It's also very spicy in places; the kind of spice that Charles Dickens absolutely would not have approved of (!) but I, personally, was very grateful for. The balance of emotional growth, festive vibes, and heat ended up working surprisingly well. A slow burn that pays off beautifully, Good Spirits turned out to be far more interesting than I expected. Come for the festive retelling, stay for the tears, chemistry, and the reminder that sometimes the books that sneak up on you are the ones that hit hardest. Not a new Christmas classic, but very enjoyable all the same!
