Knots and Crosses

by Ian Rankin

4.0 / 5
The first Rebus novel detective John Rebus investigates the abduction and murder of young girls in Edinburgh while receiving obscure messages from the killer.
A flawed detective and a classic Scottish crime loved it

My Dad had been telling me about the Rebus novels for a long time, so I thought I'd give it a go (thanks, Dad). Wow! I'm pleased that I did.

Ok, so this one (being the first in the series) was first published in 1987, so some of it seems a little dated references to technology and the treatment of women but it's all indicative of what the country was like back in the late 80s.

John Rebus is a detective on the case of the abduction and murder of young girls in Edinburgh. He begins to receive obscure messages is this the killer taunting him?

If you're into crime novels, then Ian Rankin is the novelist for you. I liked that John Rebus isn't suave or instantly likeable. He's flawed and that's more than ok!

I'm really hoping that my Dad has the other 23 books ready for me to read.
